deepredroom: Someone asked me what other creepy things and mysteries I liked and I read it as “PLEASE POST SOME MORE THINGS ABOUT THE DEEP SEA YOU SEXY BASTARD”, and I thought it would be impolite to ignore that request. So, someone showed me this thing about, shit, 2 years ago now and it seriously shook me (their image had a sneaky picture of C’thulhu edited in at the bottom though that I took out in case anyone thought it was all bogus). Now, you know when you see those scale images of planets, stars, galaxies and beyond and you think “Wow, the universe is big” but it never really hits home. It’s just too big and too foreign for most people and myself to comprehend. However, almost everyone have seen and swam in the ocean. Looking down into it now, knowing how insanely deep and dark it truly is (might even be deeper) and knowing how much of our planet is covered by water, and now knowing how very very little we know about it, is mind blowing. Prehistoric creatures still live down there, new strange monsters with long sharp teeth and bioluminescent organs lurk in the dark waiting for a meal and our understanding of biology is challenged each time a dive is performed. We’ve seen about 10% of our upper layers of water and only 1% (maybe less) of anything past the abyss. It truly is a different world and it’s full of what I describe as “living demons”, all vicious, all hungry. Even things thought to be hokey-pokey sailors tales like the giant squid are now being found to be true.
